A Priceless Diamond RIng Recovered in Joliet, IL!
Blake reached out to me after his wife lost her sterling silver diamond engagement ring in their Joliet backyard. The ring held special meaning because the diamond had belonged to her mother, who had passed away.
Blake had already searched the lawn carefully with a rake and even tried using a small metal detector. During his search, he managed to find her wedding ring, which had been lost at the same time, but the engagement ring was still MIA.
The next day, I headed to Joliet to help with the search. A steady rain was falling, so the weather wasn’t ideal for metal detecting, but I knew how much finding this ring would mean to Blake and his wife.
When I arrived, Blake showed me the area where his wife believed she had lost it, and I immediately began a grid search.
Right away, I started getting some promising signals. In the first 10 minutes, I uncovered, in order, a dime, a penny, another penny, a small unidentified circular object—and then a 1976 Kennedy half dollar! Not a bad start for my first few minutes detecting the yard.
After taking a moment to admire the Kennedy half dollar, I went right back to my grid search. Less than a minute later, another signal stopped me in my tracks. The numbers and the tones emanating from my detector were right where I would expect a silver item to register. Could this finally be the ring?
I unholstered my pinpointer and narrowed the target down to a tiny spot between the blades of grass. By now, the steady rain had turned the ground into mud. I carefully worked my fingers into the soil, knowing there was something just beneath the surface but still unable to see what it was.
Then, about an inch down, I caught a glimpse of something curved.
I carefully cleared away a little more mud, and the unmistakable circular shape of a ring began to appear. I reached down, pulled it from the ground, and wiped away the mud.
There it was—the missing engagement ring, with that precious diamond still sitting securely in its sterling silver setting.
A big smile came across my face. It had taken less than 15 minutes to recover this priceless family treasure. Seeing the happiness and surprise on Blake’s face when I showed him the ring told me my work was done here.
